چکیده
We present new high-quality near-infrared photometry of 10 Galactic Globular Clusters spanning a wide metallicity range (−2.126[Fe/H]6 − 0.49): five clusters belong to the Halo (namely, NGC 288, NGC 362, NGC 6752, M 15 and M 30) and five (namely, NGC 6342, NGC 6380, NGC 6440, NGC 6441 and NGC 6624) to the Bulge. By combining J, H and K observations with optical data, we constructed Colour-Magnitude Diagrams in various planes ((K,J-K), (K,V-K), (H,J-H), and (H,V-H)). A set of photometric indices (colours, magnitudes and slopes) describing the location and the morphology of the Red Giant Branch (RGB) have been measured. We have combined this new data set with those already published by Ferraro et al. (2000) and Valenti et al. (2004), and here we present an updated calibration of the various RGB indices in the 2MASS photometric system, in terms of the cluster metallicity.

Near - Infrared photometry of four metal - rich Bulge globular clusters : NGC 6304 , NGC 6569 , NGC 6637 , NGC 6638 ⋆
We present high-quality near-Infrared photometry of four Bulge metal-rich globular clusters, namely: NGC 6304, NGC 6569, NGC 6637 and NGC 6638. By using the observed Colour-Magnitude Diagrams we derived a photometric estimates of the cluster reddening and distance. We performed a detailed analysis of the Red Giant Branch, presenting a complete description of morphologic parameters and evolution...
متن کاملOn the calibration of Red Giant Branch metallicity indicators in globular clusters: new relations based on an improved abundance scale
We present an improved calibration of photometric metallicity indicators, derived from the new metallicity scale for Globular Clusters presented by Carretta & Gratton (1997) and based on direct high resolution spectroscopy of 160 stars in 24 globular clusters. We have carefully recalibrated the traditional abundance indices based upon the red giant branch (RGB) morphology, both in the V,B − V a...
متن کاملThe Red Giant Branch in Near - Infrared Colour - Magnitude Diagrams . II : The luminosity of the Bump and the Tip ⋆
We present new empirical calibrations of the Red Giant Branch (RGB) Bump and Tip based on a homogeneous near-Infrared database of 24 Galactic Globular Clusters. The luminosities of the RGB Bump and Tip in the J, H and K bands and their dependence on the cluster metallicity have been studied, yielding empirical relationships. By using recent transformations between the observational and theoreti...
متن کاملA near-infrared and optical photometric study of the Sculptor dwarf spheroidal galaxy: implications for the metallicity spread
The Sculptor dwarf spheroidal galaxy has a giant branch with a significant spread in colour, symptomatic of an intrinsic age/metallicity spread. We present here a detailed study of the Sculptor giant branch and horizontal branch morphology, combining new near-infrared photometry from the Cambridge InfraRed Survey Instrument (CIRSI), with optical data from the ESO Wide Field Imager. For a Sculpt...
متن کاملAstronomy & Astrophysics The Draco dwarf galaxy in the near - infrared
With the William Herschel Telescope in La Palma we made IJKs observations of an area of about 40′ × 30′ of the Local Group galaxy Draco. This allows us to describe Draco’s late-type stellar population across the whole galaxy at a photometric level 2 mag deeper than the 2MASS survey. We detected the red giant branch (RGB) and measured the magnitude of the tip of the RGB in the three bands. From ...
